Valencene is an orange flavour and fragrance ingredient used in food and drink, personal care and household products. It can also be used as an intermediate component in the production of nootkatone. Traditional methods for producing valencene require extraction from orange peels. The cost and supply will fluctuate depending on the harvest. Our fermentation-produced valencene provides flavour and fragrance producers with a more sustainable, economical and reliable supply chain, which also opens the possibility for creating new valencene applications. We produce large-scale commercial quantities of valencene and the customer feedback is excellent.
We launched valencene in December 2015. In the second half of 2016, we switched production to a strain with approximately 50% better efficiency than the one we used for launch.
