Pomecins™ are Evolva’s proprietary compounds with potential uses as broad spectrum antifungals for consumer healthcare, pharmaceuticals, crop and food protection. The Pomecins™ portfolio includes EV-086 and EV-050, and several other related compounds.

The Fungicide Market

The world food supply is under increasing strain, driven by population increases, growing consumer affluence and global climate change. A significant percentage of world food supply is at risk from fungal pathogens and annual sales of fungicides to combat these pests amount to ca USD 8 billion. Howevever many fungal pathogens are becoming resistant to existing fungicides and finding new mechanisms of action is increasingly important.

About Pomecin B (EV-050)

Pomecin B is a potent antifungal with stability and production properties that make it particularly suitable for use in applications such as crop protection, the treatment of post-harvest and food chain infections as well as fungal infections of farmed fish and livestock.

Progress

In 2011, we conducted toxicology studies and developed a formulation suitable for application on plants. Studies against powdery mildew on grape vines are planned.
