Evolva is looking for a highly qualified individual for the key position of Chief Medical Officer.

The Company

Evolva's proprietary discovery technology platform uses a “disruptive” technological approach to the creation of novel small compounds that differs sharply from the prevailing synthetic chemistry and protein engineering approaches in the pharmaceutical industry today. Based on this technology, Evolva has a number of discovery and pre-clinical partnerships which in 2009 generated revenues of CHF 18.9 million. Evolva also has an attractive pipeline of compounds – one drug candidate (for renal and cardiovascular diseases) is in Phase I and two others (an anti-fungal and an anti-viral) are in late preclinical stages. The Position

Evolva is seeking a Chief Medical Officer with strong experience in anti-infectives and/or cardiovascular diseases. The position will be in Basel.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Evolva’s clinical development activities, taking preclinical compounds to Phase 2
2. Reporting to the CEO, and working with the Executive Management team, to manage the in-house clinical development team, external consultants and Contract Research Organizations
3. To prepare clinical compounds for partnering, working closely with Business Development

The Profile

The ideal candidate should be a Medical Doctor and have experience in positions of increasing clinical development responsibility within big pharma/biotech. Other desirable qualifications and characteristics include:

• Experience of clinical development in anti-infectives and/or cardiovascular diseases
• Track record of successful clinical development of more than one compound to Phase 2b
• Experience of clinical trial design, strategy, implementation and operational responsibility
• Experience in smaller biotechs and enthusiasm to work in a “hands on” environment
• Track record of successful interaction with US FDA a strong plus
• Will not need scientific or technical knowledge of the Evolva platform
• Self-motivated/self-managed individual with strong analytical/intellectual skills and business acumen
• Strong priority and time management skills with the ability to recalibrate quickly according to changing conditions
• Managing complexity, collaboration and delivering results are essential
• The ability to influence and challenge superiors, peers and subordinates with fact based support, strong presence and effective communication skills
