Technology
Evolva is based on "genetic chemistry" - the process of making small molecules by using genes that encode for biosynthetic pathways, and the exploitation of compounds originating from such a process.
Our technologies encompass four main approaches:
- Bio-prospecting technologies that use modern genetics and chemistry technologies to identify and source the most interesting genes and compounds for a given target.
- The creation of "chemistry enabled" recombinant micro-organisms that express diverse chemistry encoding genes from other species, enabling them to synthesize heterologous compounds.
- The selection and breeding of subsets of these micro-organisms against pharmaceutical targets, looking for those individual micro-organisms that make compounds that best hit the assay.
- Compound advancement – identifying, analoging and scaling up compounds through manipulations of compound producing cells or the compounds themselves.
Combined, these allow Evolva to capture nature’s genetic chemistry pool and drive the discovery of novel compounds for therapeutic targets. In some areas our technologies are allied to more conventional approaches such as medicinal chemistry.
